Edit: they read my review and provided me an installation video. While this video is not titled well and is very hard to find yourself, it is extremely helpful and changes the entire feel of the shifter. https://youtu.be/08d0Rtppu0A?si=A_tM7dR7nmwkhpR0&t=691 Due to the difficulty of finding the video and the poor quality of the provided hardware, I give 4 stars. You would be better off using your own Alan key set, the provided key stripped some bolt heads. Below is my original review: 1) the shifter is frustrating because third gear is not centered, which is unlike any car I have driven. That was a problem with the original Amazon product that I hoped could be fixed by the new OBSR face plate, but it has gotten worse. The gear slot is exactly as wide as the shifter arm, making it very frustrating to shift into the gears. I was expecting more from the face plate, the only plus was the rubber stops to quiet the rig down. I actually switched to the old face plate because I liked it more. The springs were a nice addition 2) the provided tools were cheap and useless. Anyone who has a sim rig has tools to assemble everything, the provided tools are landfill-quality and stripped the screws when I tried to undo them.

Order came fast, quality is top notch and I'd definitely order again. It's been about 2-3 weeks since using this and I think it's finally been broken in enough to a point where shifts feel GOOD. I mean REALLY good. Been ripping LA canyons with a Miata and this shifter has basically changed the game in terms of immersion and overall feel. I enjoy shifting now as opposed to being worried about whether or not my shifts would be right, sound good, or just overall fall off my mount. 5/5 would buy again.

Not only does the price support the quality but it is very smooth and works as intended. My only complaint is that I must be very deliberate with my shifts and work hard to train my muscle memory into not shifting into the wrong gear, there is a slip into reverse and 4th when I try to slip into 6th, and sometimes other gears, simply due to how smooth the shifter is out the box, I hope over time this changes but for now, everything works well.

Sim Racing/JDM Manual Shift Knob Carbon Tear-Drop Shape | Multiple Thread Options

Does exactly what it says on the box. The original shifter is loud, and the metal on metal contact risks reducing the life of the components. With the base gasket and top cover the noise problems are reduced significantly, the life of the parts gets extended and the feel is top notch. The only minor quibble was with that the plate with the 6+r up was very slightly off-centre on the 3rd/4th column slot (pic attached). It was worse before I reversed the orientation of the shifter mechanism on the base, but I'm unsure how to improve it further. Overall though, it's a massive improvement over the original shifter

I only bought the upgrade kit because I already owned the shifter. The increased strength of the springs is absolutely my favorite part of the kit but the forged carbon plate looks gorgeous and when combined with the rubber gasket they supply, the entire shifter becomes significantly more quiet. Very easy install so I'd recommend to anyone looking for same same, but better.

2. OB1 Upgrade Kit [Plate & Springs]

This would have been 5 stars if it were not for two things. First, I could not get the product to align centered to the 6R-UP top plate as seen in the picture that is as close as I could get to being centered with my unit. Second, my unit came with only two out of the 4 screws installed holding the bottom plate to the side walls of the unit. I had to use some M3-14 screws I had at my house to replace the other two missing screws. As a side bar for information, when I went to align the unit, I realized that "Heavy Installed" came with two green springs and two red springs installed. The two green springs impacted the gate and the two red impact the throw from side-to-side. I assumed that it would have come with four green springs installed, but that wasn't the case.

Also I had one of these shifters a while ago that broke because metal shavings (from metal on metal contact) got on the inside and ruined it. Now with the new top plate I don’t have to worry about that!

This is the final piece to my rig at this moment in time and I'm super stoked on it. Got it plugged in and set up to run Asseto Corsa no problem. Few things that were less than perfect: 1) Took a couple weeks to get this, I ordered it right before Christmas holiday so be aware it may take a while if you do same 2) I took top cover off to inspect and one of the inserts where screw goes in came loose, not a big deal but caught me off guard 3) No instructions or install recommendations came with it just a bunch of hardware 4) The shift knob has a fairly large threaded hole, one of the included plastic adapters that was closest fit to the shifter fit ok and that gets threaded onto shift lever, the shift knob doesn't have a solid "feel" this way, it has a bit of a wobble to it Other than that it works great takes the driving experience to the next level for me it really feels like a real car!

Easy installation and really made a night/day difference to this shifter. Shifting between gears no longer is metal on metal scraping but a nice solid thunk. All gears engage great, my shifter uses the magnet pickup instead of flappy switches - no issues at all. The only negative thing. The nut in the bottom holding the gear-lever came loose, there wasn’t enough thread for the for nylon in the locknut. So I replaced the 2 washers with thinner ones and haven’t had a problem since. Also windows for some reason installed the wrong driver profile. After getting the above sorted it’s been happy days 10/10. Thinking about buying again for the second rigg although it got quite expensive with the import tax. But its got a way nicer shift feeling than my old newt shifter

I bought an AliExpress shifter that has great value for its price and found a YouTube video with the mods from Old Boy sim racing. I ordered the mod and built it into the shifter, its a game changer, the carbon looks great and the sound and feel of the shifter is much better. Le mod Oldboy est clairement la référence ! Le montage est simple, les pièces comme l’emballage respirent la qualité. Rien à voir avec la boîte générique d’origine : plus de bruits métalliques, et les ressorts, verts comme rouges offrent enfin une sensation réaliste pour du sim. L’entretien est bien plus facile que sur les shifters concurrents souvent trop complexes à l'intérieur et c'est un avantage pour ce mod. Quand c'est réussi il faut le dire ! Là, on tient le meilleur rapport qualité-prix du simracing !
